D&A Steering Ltd. is an automotive component manufacturer based in Birmingham. The company provide a range of services including repair and manufacture of vehicle components for the automotive industry.

D&A Steering originally offered remanufactured steering products, but they have recently been extending their product range: this has often required extensive R&D to develop to production.

Client Needs

The Client wanted to develop several new areas of potential business with their existing clients for which a range of engineering technical support would be essential. This support would be crucial to the successful development of the new business areas and would also aid credibility with their clients. These areas included automotive air suspension, air conditioning and ABS braking systems and components.

Several specific project areas were identified for support including design analysis and reverse engineering.

What We Did

Through VIN technology services™ D&A Steering have been able to access vital equipment and expertise to help on a variety of collaborative projects with two different schools at the University of Birmingham including Engineering (Dr Kyle Jiang, Dr David Weale and Jerry Shucksmith) and Historical Studies (Steve Wilkes).

Results

This support has enabled D&A Steering to set up a new manufacturing cell employing 1 new person through attracting an additional revenue stream and they hope to develop an additional new product line shortly, leading to further expansion of the business.
